WOOSTER, OHIO — The Hiram College women’s volleyball team came away with a pair of victories on the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference volleyball weekend hosted by The College of Wooster today (Saturday, Oct. 15) in Wooster.
With the victories, the Terriers improve to 20-6 overall and 8-2 in the NCAC. It marks the third straight season that Hiram has recorded 20 or more wins and the eighth of its last nine.
In its first match of the day against Oberlin College, Hiram jumped out early winning the first set by the final of 25-11. The two teams played a heavily contested second set, but it would be the Terriers who would prevail, 30-28, to take a 2-0 overall match lead. Hiram put the match away by capturing the third set, 25-10, to claim a 3-0 match victory.
In the match against DePauw (Ind.) University, the Tigers took the early lead winning the first set, 25-20. Hiram then rallied posting back-to-back set victories, 25-18 and 25-16, to take a 2-1 lead in the match. DePauw then evened the match at two games apiece with a 25-21 fourth-set victory. In the fifth and deciding set, Hiram came away with the victory, 15-10, to go on to the 3-2 overall win.
Hiram will conclude the two-day event tomorrow (Sunday, Oct. 16) with a pair of matches on the final day of competition of the NCAC volleyball weekend hosted by Wooster. The Terriers will play against Allegheny (Pa.) College in their first match at noon, followed by a matchup against Kenyon College at 6 p.m.
