Behind a strong offensive performance, the Hiram College volleyball team swept past Allegheny (Pa.) in the NCAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday evening.
The third seeded Terriers improve to 23-6 on the season, while the sixth seeded Gators drop to 18-13.
Hiram will now take on No. 2-seed DePauw (Ind.) on Saturday afternoon at noon in the NCAC Tournament Semifinals.
As a team, the Terriers recorded 54 kills and just 12 errors, finishing the match with a .375 hitting mark.
Junior Lindsay Brewer (New Franklin/Barberton) had a match-high 20 kills and .545 hitting mark. Sophomore Marissa Jay (Parma/Padua Franciscan) added 14 kills and senior Shirjoma Jacobs(Maple Heights) had 10.
Senior Tierra Moore (Canton/Canton South) dished out a match-high 48 assists. Senior Regina Zyle (Cleveland/Beaumont) and sophomore Laura Kelly (Massillon/Jackson) finished with 24 and nine digs, respectively.
Bailey Gawley led the Gators with 10 kills and Justine Kelly dished out 19 assists.
Hiram used a 6-2 run midway through the first set to open a 15-11 lead. The Terriers never trailed from there, picking up a 25-21 victory.
In Set 2, Hiram jumped out to a 16-5 lead and never looked back, cruising to a 25-13 win.
In the third set, the Terriers used a 10-1 run to open a 19-9 lead. Kills by senior Jennifer Yardas (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) and Brewer gave the Terriers the set and match by a 25-14 score.
