The Hiram College volleyball team split its final two matches of the College of Mount St. Joseph Kickoff Tournament defeating the host school Lions,3-1, but fell to Thomas More (Ky.) College in the finale, 3-1.
In the first match of the day against MSJ, Hiram (2-1) grabbed the first two matches with scores of 25-18 and 25-21 to take a 2-0 match lead. MSJ (0-3) avoided the sweep by winning the third set, 25-10, and cut the Terrier lead to 2-1. Hiram put the match away with a victory in the fourth set, 25-15, for the 3-1 win.
Against Thomas More, Hiram jumped out early with a 25-23 first set win. The Saints (1-1) then took the next three sets, 25-19, 25-16 and 25-17 to rally for the 3-1 match victory.
Hiram will host John Carroll University on Wednesday, Sept. 4 in the home opener at Price Gymnasium. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
