CORTLAND, N.Y. — The Hiram College volleyball team opened up its 2014 season with a pair of straight set victories over Richard Stockton (N.J.) and Medaille (N.Y.) on Friday at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic.

Hiram is now 2-0 on the season.

In the match against Richard Stockton (1-1), junior Lindsay Brewer (Barberton/Manchester) paced the Terriers with 20 kills and an impressive .432 hitting percentage in the Terriers 25-17, 25-22, 27-25 victory.

Sophomore Marissa Jay (Parma/Padua Franciscan) added nine kills and senior Shirjoma Jacobs(Maple Heights) finished with six.

Senior Tierra Moore (Canton/Canton South) dished out 41 assists and senior Regina Zyle(Cleveland/Beaumont) and sophomore Laura Kelly (Massillon/Jackson) added 17 and 13 digs, respectively.

Against Medaille (0-2), Hiram won by a score of 25-12, 25-13, 25-16.

Brewer paced HC with 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .333.

Sophomore Claire Maier (Huntsville/Indian Lake) dished out 16 assists and Moore added 14.

The Terriers will return to action on Saturday with two more matches at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic. The Terriers will play St. Lawrence (N.Y.) at 1:30 p.m. and Nazareth (N.Y.) at 4 p.m.
