The Hiram College volleyball team dropped a tight 25-23, 27-25, 25-17 match to No. 7-ranked Mount Union on Tuesday evening.

The Terriers fall to 14-3 on the season, while the Purple Raiders improve to 17-1.

Junior Lindsay Brewer (Barberton/Manchester) led the Terriers with a match-high 13 kills. Sophomore Marissa Jay (Parma/Padua Franciscan) added 10 kills, with a hitting percentage of .556.

Senior Tierra Moore (Canton/Canton South), the reigning NCAC Player of the Week, dished out 30 assists.

Senior Regina Zyle (Cleveland/Beaumont) finished with a match-high 22 digs, while sophomoreLaura Kelly (Massillon/Jackson) and junior Ashton Webb (Wadsworth/Norton) added 14 and 10, respectively.

Mount Union was led by Nicole Snyder who had 12 kills and Sarah Schleich who had a match-high 36 assists.

Mount Union would win the final three points of the opening set to take it 25-23.

In the second set, the Terriers opened up a late 23-19 lead, forcing a Purple Raider timeout. But Mount Union would win five consecutive points to jump back in front 24-23.

The Terriers would win the next two points, but Mount Union claimed the final three for the second set, 27-25.

Mount Union opened up a 14-5 lead midway through the third set. Hiram chipped away, cutting the deficit to 18-13. But the Purple Raiders won four of the next five points to open up a 22-14 lead and take control.

Mount Union hit .213 as a team, while the Terriers hit .187.

Hiram will return to action on Friday, when it returns to NCAC action with a match at Wooster, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
