HIRAM, OHIO — The Hiram College volleyball team defeated Oberlin College in straight sets, 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-14) tonight (Wednesday, Sept. 28) in a North Coast Athletic Conference match at Price Gymnasium. [Match Statistics]
With the win, the Terriers improve to 14-6 overall and 3-2 in the NCAC. The Yeowomen fall to 0-14 overall and 0-5 NCAC.
Leading the Hiram offense was senior All-NCAC middle hitter Kristi Opfer (Garrettsville/Garfield) with 13 kills. Junior outside hitter Ariel Pund (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) was second with six kills. Setting up the offense was senior setter Taylor Summerfield (Warren/Howland) with a team-high 29 set assists. Pund, freshman outside hitter Marissa Wilson (Garfield Heights/Euclid) and freshman libero Regina Zyle (Cleveland/Beaumont) had two service aces.
Defensively, Zyle led the way with 21 digs. Pund was second with nine digs. Opfer tallied a team-best eight total blocks (three solo and five assists) and senior middle hitter Katie Rumora (Canal Winchester) added four blocks (one solo and three assists).
Hiram will go on an extended road trip beginning with a matchup against Kenyon College on Saturday, Oct. 1 in Gambier. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
