HIRAM, OHIO – The Hiram College volleyball team defeated Kenyon College, 3-0, tonight (Wednesday, Oct. 13) in a North Coast Athletic Conference match at Price Gymnasium on the campus of Hiram College. [Match Statistics]
With the win, the Terriers improve to 15-9 overall and 6-1 in conference play. The Ladies fall a game below .500 to 10-11 overall and 3-4 in the NCAC.
Hiram defeated Kenyon in the first set by a final of 25-19. In the second set, it was all Hiram as they moved the match score to 2-0 with a 25-10 win. The Terriers held off Kenyon in the third and final set 25-21, for the 3-0 match sweep.
Junior All-North Coast Athletic Conference outside hitter Shaina Bryan (South Euclid/Brush) led the Terriers offense with 11 kills while junior Kristi Opfer (Garretsville/Garfield) and junior Megan Woodard (St. Leonard, Md./Calvert) were second on the team with nine kills each. Senior setter Alyssa Coundourides (Brunswick/Parma-Padua Franciscan) helped set the pace with a team-best 20 set assists, followed by freshman setter Kallie Rogers (Petersburg/Springfield Local) with 13 set assists.
Defensively Hiram spread the wealth with nine different Terriers recording digs, led by senior outside hitter Kim Sage (Bellevue) with 10 digs. Bryan also contributed nine digs for second best on the team.
Hiram will continue its NCAC schedule with a three match volleyball weekend at Oberlin College. The Terriers are scheduled to face Oberlin on Saturday, Oct.16 at 1 p.m. followed by a 4:30 p.m. match that same afternoon against Allegheny (Pa.) College and wrapping up Sunday, Oct. 17 with a noon match against The College of Wooster.
