On Saturday, October 9 Student Senate and the administration of Hiram College hosted the 4th annual Run for Grace and Andy. With beautiful weather watching down over them, over 250 walkers and runners off on the 3-mile square.
Finishing first for the men was Forest Reed and not far behind him Martha Schettler finished first for the women. Both first place finishers received a medal, a Hiram College bookstore gift card, and free entry into the race for next year.
This year all participants were entered into a raffle that consisted of over 30 prizes donated by local businesses.
Participants, by-standers, and volunteers came together for the closing ceremony to recognize Grace’s parents, Bob and Joyce Chamberlain and Andy’s parents, Ken and Robin Hopkins for their continued dedication to this event. When asked about the event, Joyce Chamberlain comments, “Each year the Run for Grace and Andy is a special day for us. This year the enthusiasm, spirit and hard work from the Student Senate and student volunteers reminded us again of why we love being at Hiram and feel close to Grace when we are there.” She extended special appreciation to Beau Bradley ’12,Tiayra Matthews ’12, and Kathy Perez ’12.
The committee hopes to make next year’s race, which will be the 5th anniversary of Grace and Andy’s death, even more successful than this year.
