Te’Shauna Gray, a senior management major, recently became Hiram College’s first American Marketing Association (AMA) scholarship recipient. The scholarship provided Gray attendance at a Cleveland marketing research conference, which was exclusive to AMA members and scholarship winners.
Gray says the conference opened opportunities for her to connect with fellow students and market researchers and also gain a richer understanding of the depth of the marketing field.
“I developed a strong interest in marketing from taking Professor [Aninda] Shome’s marketing courses. It pushed me to jump on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Gray says.
Dr. Shome, an assistant professor of business management who teaches Hiram’s marketing courses, says he is exceptionally pleased about Gray’s accomplishment.
“Te’Shauna’s selection emphasizes the high academic standards Hiram’s accounting, management and economics department has for its students,” says Dr. Shome. “I am particularly happy that the highest body in marketing has endorsed our student.”
Dr. Shome adds that the Hiram Management Club is in the process of working with the AMA in hopes of creating an AMA chapter at Hiram College. He says that having a chapter on campus would give students direct and easy access to the expertise and knowledge of local and national practitioners. The chapter, he adds, would help link students to scholarships and internship opportunities with leading practitioners.
