The Hiram College swimming and diving teams completed the second day of events at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Kenyon College at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.  [NCAC Championship Website]

The Terrier women remain in ninth place of nine teams after the second day with a team score of 168 points.  Denison University leads the overall event with 1,162 points, followed by Kenyon in second place with 1,153.5 points.  Rounding out the top three is DePauw (Ind.) University with 630.5 points.

The women had one individual advance to the finals in sophomore Becca Wright (New Carlisle/Northwestern Local) who qualified in the 100-yard butterfly.  Wright swam a time of 1:09.27 and placed 24th overall.  Hiram also competed in both relay events of the day with the team of sophomore Rachel Buckley (Amherst/Elyria Catholic), sophomore Samantha Polmanteer (Berkley, Mich./Berkley), Wright and senior Jessie Gruden (Sagamore Hills/Western Reserve) finishing ninth in the 200-yard medley relay with an overall time of 2:02.13.  In addition, sophomore Carly Daniels (Mesa, Ariz./Dobson), freshman Rachel Patten (Castalia/Margaretta), sophomore Megan Mcbratnie(Berkley, Mich./Berkley) and Buckley placed ninth in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 8:28.65.

The Hiram men remain in 10th place of 10 teams following today’s events with 132 points.  Denison also leads the men standings with a two-day total 1,111.5 points.  Kenyon is second at 1,065 points and DePauw is third at 679.5 points.

Individually, two Terriers qualified for the finals.  Junior Job Fields (Chillicothe) advanced to the finals in the 400-yard individually medley and finished 21st overall with a time of 4:28.14.  In addition, junior Ryan Astalos (Bainbridge/Kenston) competed in the finals of the 100-yard breaststroke finishing in a time of 1:02.06 to place 21st overall.  In relay event competition, senior James DeGroff (Cuyahoga Falls), freshman Mark Stanke (Dover), freshman Danny Essel (Euclid) and Fields posted a time of 7:41.84 to place 10th overall in the 800-yard free relay.

The Hiram swim teams will conclude the 2012-13 NCAC Swim Championships tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 16) at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.  The first event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
