GROVE CITY, PA. — The Hiram College swimming and diving teams resumed the 2010-11 season today against Grove City College in a non-conference dual meet in Grove City, Pa. The Terrier men lost, 151-111, and the women fell, 183-89. In addition, the women also competed against Chatham (Pa.) University, but lost to the Cougars by the final score of 207-81. Following today’s meet, the men are now 2-3 overall in dual meet competition and the women are now 2-4 overall.
The men were led by senior Zach Wegman (Knoxville, Tenn/Bereon) who captured three events in the 100-yard butterfly, the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley. Wegman recorded a time of 54.09 seconds in the 100-yard fly, 4:57.57 in the 500-yard free and 2:02.42 in the 200-yard IM.
The top individual effort for the women was turned in by freshman Jessie Gruden (Sagamore Hills/Western Reserve Academy) who placed third in the 50-yard free with a mark of 26.99 seconds.
Hiram will be idle until Jan. 7 when the swim teams travel to Wooster for a North Coast Athletic Conference dual meet against The College of Wooster. The first event is scheduled for 6 p.m.
