HIRAM, OHIO  –  The Hiram College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept Urbana University in a non-conference dual meet on Friday (Nov. 19) at the Alumni Memorial Pool.  The Terrier men defeated the Blue Knights, 92-79, and the women held on for the  72-71 victory.  [Complete Results]

With the victories, both the men’s and women’s teams improve to 2-2 overall in dual meet competition.

The men had six individual event winners and two multi-event winners.  Senior Colin Kelly (Perrysburg) recorded the fastest time in both the 800-meter free (9:24.85) and the 400-meter free (4:33.19).  Senior Santiago Morales (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Bilboa) captured the 200-meter free (2:06.97) and the 100-meter butterfly (1:02.02).  Also claiming victories for the men was freshman Ryan Astalos (Bainbridge) who won the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2:29.27 and fellow freshman Sam Ivcic (Maple Heights) captured the one-meter diving event with 115.95 points.

The women had five individual event winners.  Junior Becca Szanto (Bainbridge) won the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 10:39.49.  Senior Kelsey Covell (Parma Heights/Valley Forge) captured the 200-meter free (2:29.77) and senior Ashlynn Krohn (Wauseon) touched the wall first in the 200-meter individual medley (2:49.72).  Rounding out the individual winners for Hiram was junior Sydney Kispert-Bostick (Frazer, Mich./Frazer) who won both the one and three-meter diving events with scores of 123.80 points and 137.85 points respectively.  The women also had one winning relay team in the 200-meter medley relay.  Covell, senior Mackenzie Saywell (Kirtland), freshman Jessica Gruden (Sagamore Hills/Western Reserve Academy) posted a combined time of 2:17.52 to take top honors.

The swim teams will compete in away meets until January 8th, 2011.  The next meet for the Terriers will be at the Grove City (Pa.) Invitational on December 3-4.
