SPRINGFIELD, OHIO — The Hiram College swimming and diving teams lost to Wittenberg University today (Saturday, Jan. 15) in a North Coast Athletic Conference dual meet in Springfield. The Terrier men lost, 199-77, and the women fell, 192-81. [Meet Results]
Following today’s meet, the Terrier men fall to 3-5 overall in dual meet competition and 0-2 NCAC. The women drop to 4-6 overall and 0-2 NCAC.
The men had one individual event winner in senior Travis Subda (Spring, Texas/Klein Collins) who won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:20.54. He also finished second in the 100-yard breast (1:04.43) and third in the 50-yard freestyle (23.70 seconds). Other top finishes for the men included a third-place showing by senior Colin Kelly (Perrysburg) in the 1000-yard free (10:46.43). Freshman Sam Ivcic (Maple Heights) placed second in both the one-meter diving and three-meter diving events with 125.55 points and 132.05 points respectively.
The top individual effort for the women was turned in by senior Claire Rachek (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) who placed second in the 200-yard free with a mark of 2:13.78. Jackie Steffes (Spring, Texas/Klein Collins) placed third in the same event, touching the wall in a time of 2:18.62. Senior Ashlynn Krohn (Wauseon) posted a second-place finish in the the 200-yard backstroke, recording a time of 2:29.83. Other high finishers included a third-place finish by senior Kelsey Covell (Parma Heights/Valley Forge) in the 100-yard back with a time of 1:10.24. Freshman Jessica Gruden (Sagamore Hills/Western Reserve Academy) placed third in the 50-yard free with a mark of 27.18 seconds.
The Hiram swim teams will travel to Berea for a tri-meet against Baldwin-Wallace College and NCAC opponent Allegheny (Pa.) College on Friday, Jan. 21. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
