The Hiram College swimming and diving teams competed against North Coast Athletic Conference opponent Wittenberg University in a dual meet in Springfield. The Terrier women were defeated by the Tigers, 154-73, and the men lost, 154-59.
With the outcome, the Hiram women are now 5-6 overall in dual meet competition. The top individual performances for the women were a pair of second-place finishes by sophomores Samantha Polmanteer (Berkley, Mich./Berkley) and Rachel Buckley (Amherst/Elyria Catholic). Polmanteer finished second in the one-meter dive with 137.15 points and Buckley placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 58.24 seconds.
Following today’s meet, the Hiram men are now 3-7 overall in dual meet competition. The top individual efforts for the men were recorded by junior Job Fields(Chillicothe) and freshman Danny Essel (Euclid) who both posted a pair of second-place finishes. Fields placed second in the 400-yard individual medley (4:43.10) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.98). Essel touched the wall second in both the 1000-yard free and 200-yard breaststroke with marks of 12:01.47 and 2:27.63 respectively.
The Hiram swim teams will next compete in a tri-meet hosted by Urbana University on Saturday, Jan. 19 in Urbana. The Terriers will take on the Blue Knights as well as competing against West Virginia Tech. The first event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
