The Hiram College swimming and diving teams competed against John Carroll University in a non-conference dual meet in University Heights. The Terrier women were defeated by the Blue Streaks, 137-69, and the men lost, 117-69.
Following tonight’s meet, the Hiram women are now 7-6 overall in dual meet competition. The women captured one individual event in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of sophomore Carly Daniels (Mesa, Ariz./Dobson), sophomore Rachel Buckley (Amherst/Elyria Catholic), senior Jessie Gruden (Sagamore Hills/Western Reserve) and sophomore Becca Wright (New Carlisle/Northwestern Local) posted a combined time of 3:56.84. The top individual effort was turned in by freshman Rachel Patten(Castalia/Margaretta) who placed second in three events that included the 1000-yard free (11:36.13), the 200-yard individual medley (2:29.83) and the 500-yard free (5:37.54).
The Hiram men are now 4-9 overall in dual meet competition. The Terriers did not capture an individual event title, but did have three individuals finish as runners-up. JuniorJob Fields (Chillicothe) placed second in the 1000-yard free (11:08.35) and senior James DeGroff (Cuyahoga Falls) touched the wall in second place in the 50-yard free (22.49 seconds). Rounding out the second-place finishes was freshman Chance Gray (Shippensburg) who swam a time of 5:41.79 in the 500-yard free.
The Terrier swim teams will wrap-up the 2012-13 regular season tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 26) when they host Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College in a non-conference dual meet at Alumni Memorial Pool. It will be senior day with the first event scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
