Hiram College

Hiram College will celebrate and honor its student writers at An Evening of Hiram Writers at 7 p.m. on April 7, 2015, in the Library’s Pritchard Room.

The Lindsay-Crane Center for Writing and Literature, one of six Centers of Distinction at Hiram, hosts several writing contests throughout the year, thanks to the support of generous donors. All of the contest winners will be honored at this celebration, and they will have an opportunity to read from their original work.

New this year, winners of the first annual Emerging Writers Nonfiction Contest for high school students will also be recognized.

The winners of the 2014-15 writing contests at Hiram College include the following:

Kroehle Creative Nonfiction Contest (judged by Karen Salyer McElmurray)

  • First Place: “Leaving Goldilocks” by Alys Dutton ’15
  • Second Place: “La Rambla” by Tiffany Foster ‘15
  • Third Place: “A Sense of Wonder” by Maya Watkins ‘17

Barbara Thompson Award for Short Fiction (judged by Kevin P. Keating)

  • First Place: “Hobophobia” by Alys Dutton ‘15
  • Second Place: “Atlas and the Sky Whale” by Maya Watkins ‘17
  • Third Place: “A Little Piece of Heaven” By Brittany Mylant ‘17
