The Hiram College softball team lost both of its games on the second day of competition at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. The Terriers were defeated by Pacific (Wash.) Lutheran, 8-0, in five innings, and lost to Ithaca (N.Y.) College, 6-1.
In the game against Pacific Lutheran, the Lutes struck early scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first inning to grab a 2-0 lead. PLU then took control of the game in the third crossing the plate five times and added another run in the fourth to extend the margin to 8-0. Hiram (5-5) could not get any runs across homeplate through five innings putting the eight-run rule into effect resulting in a 8-0 shutout for the Lutes.
The Terriers posted two hits in the game and freshman pitcher Meghan Garland (Mineral Ridge) was credited the loss.

Against Ithaca, the Bombers jumped out to the early lead with three runs in the top of the second inning. Hiram got on the board in the third with a run to narrow the gap to 3-1. Ithaca answered the Terrier run with a run of its own in the fourth and went on to add two more runs in the fifth to make the score 6-1. Hiram tallied six hits in the game, but would not score any more runs as Ithaca went on to claim the 6-1 win.
On the hill for Hiram, freshman Taylor Miller (Kent/Roosevelt) was given the loss.

Hiram is scheduled to play against Husson (Maine) University tomorrow (Sunday, Mar. 10) the “Copper Bracket” of the NFCA Leadoff Classic. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
