Several Hiram College students, along with Jennifer Clark, assistant professor of biology, and Merose Hwang, assistant professor of history, volunteered at the Cuyahoga River clean-up on April 26, 2014, as part of the city of Kent’s “Who’s Your Mama” Earth Day celebration.
The Kent Storm Water group organized the clean-up effort. Working with several Kent State students, the Hiram students helped fill more than five trash bags with garbage in an effort to help restore one of Ohio’s most historically impaired waterways.
The mission of the “Who’s Your Mama?” Earth Day Festival, according to its website, is to celebrate planet earth and to provide awareness of the sustainable activities occurring in our area. The festival centers on four ideas: alternative energy, sustainable agriculture, conservation and multimedia environmental education.
