Taking something you love and turning it into a successful business is the kind of entrepreneurial thinking Hiram College encourages in its students every day. On Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. in the East Hall Forum, Laura Bennett, CEO, co-founder and chief embracer of Embrace Pet Insurance in Cleveland, will present the first of the spring Fireside Chats to motivate attendees do the same.
After winning the 2003 Wharton Business Plan Competition with their pet insurance idea, Bennett and Alex Krooglik created Embrace Pet Insurance. Bennett leveraged her 12-year experience as an actuary to become the first pet insurance actuary in the United States. The actuarial models behind Embrace Pet Insurance’s leading-edge, customizable pet insurance product led the company to be named to the Society of Actuaries Top 100 Actuarial Pioneers.
Additional upcoming Chats include “When Life Gives Your Lemons, Make Goat Cheese” by Jean Mackenzie of Mackenzie Creamery on Jan. 25 and “The Reads Have It!” by Marisa Sergi, founder and CEO of RedHeads Wine on Feb. 1. Open and free to the public, Fireside Chats take place Wednesday evenings, 7 p.m. at Hiram College’s East Hall Forum. For more information call 330-569-5256 or at www.hiram.edu/entrepreneurship.
