The Hiram College men’s soccer team recorded a 1-0 shutout victory against Wabash (Ind.) College in a North Coast Athletic Conference game at Charles A. Henry Field as part of Homecoming Saturday.
Hiram (4-6-1, 1-1 NCAC) scored the only goal of the first half and what would also turn out to be the only goal of the game at the 13:42 minute mark off the foot of junior Zaire Morrison (Boardman) with an assist from fellow junior Andres Ruiz (Georgetown, Cayman Islands/John Gray).
In the second half, Wabash (2-6-1, 0-1 NCAC) outshot Hiram, 7-4, but the combination of strong defense and solid goaltending by Hiram kept the Little Giants from netting the game-tying goal as Hiram went on to claim the 1-0 victory.
In net for Hiram, sophomore Matt Sacher (Akron/Coventry) started the game and played 22:02 allowing no goals. Junior Chris Minite (Aurora) came on to play the final 67:58 and also allowed no goals while making two saves.
Hiram will conclude its three-game homestand on Tuesday, Oct. 1 when it hosts Case in a non-conference game at Henry Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
