HIRAM, OHIO — The Hiram College men’s soccer team tallied three unanswered goals in a 3-2 come-from-behind win against Oberlin College tonight (Wednesday, Oct. 27) in a North Coast Athletic Conference game at the Hiram Soccer Complex. [Game Stats]
With the win, the Terriers improve to 6-11 overall and 3-4 in the NCAC. The Yeomen fall to 7-9-1 overall and 4-2-1 NCAC.
Oberlin took a sizeable lead scoring two goals in the first half beginning with a score at the 15:40 minute mark from Oliver Miller-Farrel on a free kick to give the Yeomen a 1-0 lead. Oberlin’s Justin Griffiths tallied the Yeomen’s second goal during the 29th minute to take a 2-0 advantage. Hiram then evened the score with a pair of goals in the final minutes of the period in the span of just over four minutes. Sophomore midfielder/forward Kevin Haramis (Norton) scored the first goal at the 40:45 mark to cut the lead in half at 2-1. Senior two-time All-NCAC forward Petar Knezevic (Akron/Ellet) was credited with the assist on the Haramis goal. Freshman midfielder Andy Harding (Bath/Revere) then tallied the game-tying goal with 10 seconds remaining with assists from sophomore forward Taylor Kiefer, his first of the game, and senior goalkeeper Joe Tatum (Georgetown, Cayman Islands/St. George’s School) making the score 2-2 at the break.
Hiram scored what turned out to be the game winner early in the second half off the foot of senior forward Cole Miller (Berlin/Hiland) at the 48:40 mark as the Terriers went on to win by the final of 3-2. Kiefer was credited with his second assist of the game on the Miller goal.
Tatum played all 90 minutes in goal for Hiram and claimed the victory to improve to 4-9 overall this season. He allowed two goals and made three saves.
Hiram will host Denison University on Saturday, Oct. 30 in a NCAC game at the Hiram Soccer Complex. It will be the season and home finale and will also be part of a soccer doubleheader with the Terrier women’s team. The Hiram women’s soccer team will also host the Big Red in a NCAC game at 1 p.m., followed by the men at 5 p.m.
