Hiram College

The Hiram College men’s soccer team fell, 1-0, against Carnegie (Pa.) Mellon University in the season opener for the Terriers at the CMU DoubleTree Invitational.

The game remained scoreless until the 35:58 minute mark of the first half when CMU (1-0) found the back of the net for the early lead.  Neither team recorded another goal the remainder of the period and CMU maintained its one-goal edge at the intermission.

In the second half, the deficit remained a goal for Hiram (0-1) and then during the 80th minute the Terriers would make some noise when a potential game-tying shot hit the post and went wide keeping the lead in favor of CMU.  The Tartans would be able to hang on down the stretch and keep Hiram scoreless in the final minutes resulting in a 1-0 win for CMU.

In net for Hiram, junior Chris Minite (Aurora) played all 90 minutes, but would suffer the loss and begins the season 0-1.  He allowed just the lone goal and made four saves.

Hiram will be back in action tomorrow (Saturday, Aug. 31) with the final game of the CMU DoubleTree Invitational against Geneva (Pa.) College.  Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
