LATROBE, PA. — The Hiram College men’s soccer team defeated Saint Vincent College, 1-0, today (Tuesday, Sept. 28) in a non-conference game in Latrobe, Pa. [Game Stats]
With the win, the Terriers improve to 4-6 overall and the Bearcats fall to 2-7-2 overall for the season.
Hiram tallied the only goal of the game just past the midway point of the first half with a score by senior midfielder George Schatz (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) at the 26:26 minute mark to give the Terriers a 1-1 lead. Junior defender Jonathan Roszak (Medina) was credited with an assist on the Schatz goal.
The Terriers outshot the Bearcats, 21-6, in the game and solid defense and goaltending by sophomore Joe Rottinger (Strongsville), kept Saint Vincent from scoring the game-tying goal and preserving a 1-0 shutout victory.
Rottinger recorded his first win of the season and is now 1-0 overall. He made two saves in 90 minutes for his first shutout of the season.
Hiram will conclude its four-game road trip on Thursday, Sept. 30 when it travels to Waynesburg, Pa. for a non-conference game against Waynesburg College. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
