DANVILLE, KY.  —  The Hiram College men’s soccer team scored four goals, but would fall, 6-4, against Centre College tonight (Saturday, Sept. 11) on the final day of the Centre College Classic in Danville, Ky.  [Game Stats]

With the loss, the Terriers fall to 1-4 overall.  The Colonels improve to 3-1 ovearll for the season.

In the first half, Centre took control scoring three straight goals beginning with a score at the 10:17 minute mark and then again during the 16th minute to lead 2-0.  The Colonels then added another goal at the 22:46 mark before junior midfielder Brian Todd (Green) put Hiram on the board with an unassisted goal during the 31st minute, making the score 3-1.  But Centre would maintain their two-goal lead at halftime, leading 3-1.

Shortly into the second half, Centre regained their three-goal lead with a marker during the 58th minute to extend the margin to 4-1.  Hiram answered the goal less than five minutes later with a goal by freshman defenseman C.J. Spilker (Parma/Valley Forge) at the 62:26 mark, cutting the deficit back to two goals, 4-2.  Centre then looked to pull away scoring two goals at the 63:30 and 75:37 marks to lead 6-2.  The Terriers looked to make one last charge, as senior two-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference forward Petar Knezevic (Akron/Ellet) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season during the 89th minute.  Sophomore midfielder/forward Kevin Haramis (Norton) was credited with an assist on the Knezevic goal.  With just under a minute remaining, Hiram struck again, this time with a goal from Haramis and an assist from sophomore forward Luke O’Callaghan (Aberdale, Wales, United Kingdom) narrowing the gap to 6-4.  But the rally ended there as Centre hung on for the two-goal victory.

In goal for Hiram, senior Joe Tatum (Georgetown, Cayman Islands/St. George’s School) played all 90 minutes, but suffered his fourth loss of the season and drops to 0-4 overall.  He allowed six goals and was credited with six saves.
