The Hiram College men’s lacrosse team dropped it conference and home opener to Wittenberg by a 23-1 score on Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers are now 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in NCAC play, while the Tigers improve to 1-3, 1-0.
Wittenberg controlled the opening faceoff and took a shot just 28 seconds into the game. But junior goalkeeper Sawyer Lott (Sunbury/Big Walnut) was able to make the save.
The Terriers would eventually gain possession and went on the attack in their end of the field. Sophomore Doug Legris (Fairfax, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) was able to find the back of the net at the 12:28 mark of the first quarter to put Hiram up 1-0.
From there, it was all Wittenberg as the Tigers scored seven first quarter goals and added six more in the second to take a 13-1 lead into the break.
Freshman Nick Rollason (Pickerington/Pickerington North) and Legris led the Terrier offense with three shots each.
Lott made 13 saves in three quarters of action and freshman Keagan Finegan (Wadsworth) made three stops in one quarter.
The Tigers outshot the Terriers 55-11, including a 39-4 edge in shots on goal.
Hiram will return to action on Wednesday, when it travels to take on non-conference foe Defiance. Faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
