The Hiram College men’s golf team finished in ninth place following the final round of the NCAC Champioship Event #1 hosted by DePauw (Ind.) University at Twin Bridges Golf Course in Danville, Ind.
Hiram concluded play with a team-total of 351 strokes on the final day of competition and ended the tournament with an overall total of 689 strokes (338+351=689) to place ninth of nine teams. Wittenberg University finised atop the team standings with 607 strokes (300+307=607) and Allegheny (Pa.) College was second with 622 strokes (312+310=622). Wabash (Ind.) College rounded out the top three schools with 623 strokes (309+314=623).
Individually for Hiram, Danny Essel (Euclid) shot a final-round score of 81 strokes and posted a two-day total 168 strokes (87+81=168) to lead the Terriers and finished in a tie for 35th overall. Sophomore Richard Bacher (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette) was second with 169 strokes (82+87=169) and senior Ethan Tope(Dalton/Waynedale) had the third lowest score with 176 strokes (84+92=176). Junior Kyle Meggas (Lakewood) placed fourth on the team with a tournament-total 184 strokes (93+91=184) and freshman James Workman (Garrettsville/Garfield) rounded out the Terrier competitors with a 36-hole score of 186 strokes (85+101=186).
Hiram will compete in the final two-day event that makes up the NCAC Championship series next weekend (Saturday-Sunday, May 3-4) in Crawfordsville, Ind. Wabash (Ind.) College will serve as host with the event being played at the Crawfordsville Country Club.
