The Hiram College men’s golf team placed ninth of 10 teams following the final round of the Ted Barclay Spring Invitational hosted by Denison University at the Granville Golf Course in Granville.
Hiram improved its final round by 13 strokes from day one with a team-total 350 strokes and finshed the two-day event with a total of 713 strokes (363+350=713) to place ninth overall. Wittenberg University won the tournament with an event-total 586 strokes (295+291=586). Ohio Wesleyan University was second at 599 strokes (303+296=599) and Kenyon College was third at 613 strokes (310+303=613).
Hiram sophomore Kyle Meggas (Lakewood) carded an 87 on the final day to lead the Terriers and end the tournament with a two-day total 174 strokes (87+87=174) and place 42nd overall. Freshman Danny Essel (Euclid) and junior Ethan Tope (Dalton/Waynedale) both finished the event with 175 strokes to place in a tie for second on the team. Rounding out the Hiram competitors was sophomore Jon Hall (Barberton) who ended the tournament with a total of 189 strokes (100+89=189).
The Terriers will conclude the 2013 spring season with the second North Coast Athletic Conference event in the NCAC Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University next Saturday-Sunday, May 4-5. The two-day tournament will be played at Oakhaven Golf Club in Delaware.
