The Hiram College men’s golf team placed 15th of 16 teams following the final round of the Nye Intercollegiate Invitational hosted by The College of Wooster at the Wooster Country Club in Wooster.
Hiram improved by 22 strokes as a team on the final day with 359 strokes and ended the two-day tournament with an overall score of 740 strokes (381+359=740) to finish in 15th place. Wittenberg University captured the team title with 609 strokes (308+301=609). The University of Mount Union was second at 630 strokes (312+318=630) and host school Wooster rounded out the top three with 640 strokes (322+318=640).
Individually for the Terriers, freshman Danny Essel (Euclid) fired an 88 on the final day and finished the tournament with a total of 177 strokes (89+88=177) and placed 73rd overall. Sophomore Kyle Meggas (Lakewood) was second on the team with a tournament-total 182 strokes (93+89=182) and junior Ethan Tope (Dalton/Waynedale) was third at 183 strokes (94+89=183) strokes. Rounding out the Hiram competitors was sophomore Jon Hall (Barberton) who had a total of 198 strokes (105+93=198).
Hiram will next compete in the Denison University Spring Invitational next Saturday-Sunday (Apr. 27-28) at the Granville Golf Course in Granville.
