Select members of the Hiram College men’s golf team completed the first event of the spring season following the final round of the Strimer Memorial Tournament hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at Glenross Golf Club.
Hiram did not qualify in the overall team standings. Otterbein University won the overall team competition with a second-round total 285 strokes to end the two-day event with a total of 576 strokes (291+285=576). Host school Ohio Wesleyan was second with 582 strokes (299+283=582) and Denison University rounded out the top three at 595 strokes (303+292=595).
Hiram had three players compete as individuals. Junior Ethan Tope (Dalton/Waynedale) and freshman Danny Essel (Euclid) both finished the two-day event with 173 strokes and placed in a tie for 47th overall. Tope shot a final round 86 strokes (87+86=173), while Essel shot an 84 (89+84=173). Sophomore Kyle Meggas (Lakewood) rounded out the competitors with a tournament total 183 strokes (94+89=183).
Hiram will next compete in the College of Wooster spring invitational next weekend beginning on Saturday, Apr. 20 at the Wooster Country Club in Wooster.
