Mars joins the Terriers after most recently serving as graduate assistant men’s volleyball coach at Elmira College (NY) for two seasons. He also served as the head junior varsity coach of the women’s volleyball program.

“I am honored and excited to be the first head coach for the Men’s Volleyball program at Hiram College, and I’d like to thank Athletic Director Ellen Dempsey and the Athletics Department for welcoming me to be a part of the staff,” says Mars. “Hiram is an institution that has all the attributes to field a very successful program in the coming years, and their mission and vision is one that I am excited to contribute to. I can’t wait to see Division III volleyball grow at the college and in the state of Ohio in the next few years.”

Men’s volleyball is the newest addition to the Department of Athletics at Hiram. The program will begin as a club sport in 2017, before elevating to varsity status for the 2018 season.

Mars was a four-year standout at Penn State, appearing in four Final Four’s as a member of the Nittany Lions. He was a versatile player, serving primarily as an outside hitter, but also playing libero, setter and right side hitter during his time.

He graduated from Penn State in 2013 with a degree in telecommunications.
