Jan Hopkins, former CNN news anchor and multimedia journalist, will be the featured speaker at Hiram College’s 166thcommencement exercises scheduled for May 14, 2016.
Hopkins is the immediate past president of the Economic Club of New York and made history as the first woman to fill this post. The Economic Club of New York is one of the oldest and preeminent speaker’s platforms for major global business, financial and political figures.
An Emmy and Peabody Award winning journalist and former anchor and correspondent at CNN, Hopkins has more than two decades of experience in business news and network television production. She continues to share her expertise through her communications consulting company, The Jan Hopkins Group, which offers media training and video production services.
Hopkins is also an independent director of Franklin Templeton Mutual Shares; Alternative Investments and Franklin Equity Funds. In 2011, she was selected as a “Director to Watch” by Directors and Boards magazine.
A native of Warren, Ohio, Hopkins worked at WERE and WWWE radio in Cleveland; WTCL radio in Warren; WKBN TV in Youngstown and WLWT TV in Cincinnati before moving to New York.
Hopkins graduated cum laude from Hiram College in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. She also earned a Master of Arts degree in American studies from Case Western Reserve University and was a Bagehot Fellow at Columbia Business School.
