Dr. Robert Haak, currently Associate Dean of Augustana College, in Rock Island, Ill., has been named Vice President and Dean of the College of Hiram College. Haak will assume his new position February 1, 2012.
In addition to his administrative duties at Augustana, Haak was a Professor of Religion, and Director of the institution’s Community Engagement Center. He is an accomplished scholar with a focus on the Hebrew Bible, has a documented record of extraordinary classroom teaching, and, since his arrival there in 1983 at Augustana, has demonstrated a commitment to teaching, scholarly activities, and meaningful service to the community. He brings to Hiram extensive experience in leading innovation in curricular areas and has had the primary responsibility for building and managing academic budgets.
Bob earned his doctorate at the University of Chicago Divinity School, a M.T.S. at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, and did his undergraduate work at Concordia College in Nebraska. He and his wife, Ellie Beach, have two grown sons.
Dr. Haak succeeds Dr. Cheryl B. Torsney, who was appointed Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the State University of New York at New Paltz, in July 2011.
