The Hiram College outdoor track and field teams officially began the season this afternoon (Saturday, Mar. 29) at The College of Wooster Invitational in Wooster. The Terrier women placed 10th of 10 teams while the men were ninth of nine teams. [Complete Individual Results] [Final Team Standings]
The Terrier women scored 13 points to place 10th while Walsh University captured the overallmeet titlewith 197 points. Wooster finished second with 112 points and Notre Dame College rounded out the top three with 105 points.
Individually for Hiram, senior All-NCAC hurdler Lynne Hutchison (Solon) finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.27 seconds. Freshman Devan Stief (Galion)finished in a three-way tie for third place in the pole vault with a height of 9′ 0.25″. Sophomore Tiffani Martin (Loudonville) placed eighth in the same event recording a height of 7′ 6.5″. Rounding out the scoring for Hiram was a sixth place finish in the 4×100-meter relay with a combined time of 56.12 seconds.
The Hiram men scored three points to finish ninth while Notre Dame College won the meet with 122 points. Wooster placed second with 91 points and Edinboro (Pa.) University was third with 88 points.
Sophomore Stefhen Offutt (Twinsburg) was the lone point scorer for the men with a sixth place finish in the long jump recording a leap of 18′ 4.25″. He also placed 10th in the 100-meter dash crossing the finish line in a time of 11.98 seconds.
The Hiram outdoor track teams return to competition on Saturday, Apr. 5 when the Terriers travel toCanton for the Jack Hazen Open Meet hosted by Malone College. The first event is scheduled to begin at10 a.m.
