The Hiram College Department of Music has released its schedule of concerts for the spring semester.
Two of the Department’s spring concerts were made possible by the Hiram Community Trust established in honor of Reign Hadsell ’26 in 1991. The trust funds projects in the local community that promote cooperation and make the area a distinctive place to live.
This semester’s Hiram Community Trust concerts include a performance by The Crooked River Stompers and an early-style music concert featuring José Gotera, baritone; Stephen Toombs, lute; and Nathan Carterette, piano. A Kent-based traditional folk and blues band, The Crooked River Stompers play a variety of American roots music.
Additional concerts this season include the Marcia Kenyon Bissell Opera and Musical Theater workshop and the 10th Annual John M. Watson Memorial Concert.
Marcia Kenyon Bissell ‘23 served more than 50 years as a professor of music. Several generations of the Bissell family stayed involved in Hiram College’s history and gave generously to the school over the years.
The Watson Memorial Concert is funded by an endowment established by the Watson family to honor John M. Watson, a Kenyon College alumnus whose ties to the Hiram community grew from his father’s tenure as a professor at Hiram College. Watson’s memory and his love for music lives on through the annual concerts.
