The Hiram College men’s golf team placed ninth out of 11 teams after the final round of the Lamkin-Strimer Memorial Invitational today (Sunday, Apr. 13) hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at Oakhaven Golf Course in Delaware. [First Round Results]
The Terriers shot a team total of 344 strokes on the final day on the par 71, 6,807-yard course layout and posted a two-day total 693 strokes to place ninth overall. Host school OWU won the event with a total of 603 strokes (304+299=603) . Wittenberg University carded a final round of 305 to finish in second place with a tournament total 617 strokes (312+305=617). Olivet (Mich.) College rounded out the top three with 621 strokes (305+316=621).
Individually, senior Dan Yockel (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) shot an 87 on the final day to lead the Terriers and finish the tournament tied for 50th overall with a two-day total 170 strokes (83+87=170). Senior Craig Blaustein (Beachwood) and junior Brian Wilthew (Garrettsville/James A. Garfield) tied for second on the team with tournament totals of 172 strokes each. Blaustein carded a final round 85 (87+85=172) while Wilthew shot the low-round of the day for Hiram with an 80 (92+80=172). Senior Jared Drummer (Dayton/Oakwood) was fourth with a total of 179 strokes (87+92=179) while freshman Andy Deehr (Cortland/Champion) rounded out the Hiram competitors with 194 strokes (100+94=194).
Hiram will compete next weekend at the Nye Intercollegiate Invitational hosted by The College of Wooster on Saturday-Sunday, Apr. 19-20 at the Wooster Country Club in Wooster
