Hiram College is pleased to announce Ohioans Claire Bergefurd of Hilliard, Alexis Green of Stow, Brooklyn Grein of Hamilton, Erica Lohan of Perry and Logan Nitsche of Hubbard as the winners of Hiram’s 2016 Terrier Scholarship. All five winners will receive a one-time $1,000 scholarship when they attend Hiram College in the fall.
To apply for the scholarship, students were asked to take a picture or a 15-second video of themselves with their terrier, or a terrier they love. Students were encouraged to think creatively and show what makes terriers special: how they are a part of the family, a best friend, a fast-learner – and more.
“We were very impressed with the creativity and excited by the enthusiasm of the submissions we received for the Terrier Scholarship,” said Vice President of Enrollment Lindajean Heller Western. “It’s so encouraging to see prospective students embracing the Hiram community, and we’re proud to have them as part of the Terrier family!”
Winning submissions featured terriers in T-shirts, terriers on the run and many varieties of terriers – including a Hiram alumnus.
Scholarship recipients were selected by a scholarship review board of Hiram College media and photography specialists based on the creativity and originality of their terrier photo or video submission.
“We’re excited to reward the creativity and spirit of these students,” said Western. “We’ve come to expect the best from Hiram students, and our Terrier Scholarship winners are no different. They are just the type of Terriers we’re looking for.”
