Sophomore Allie Glatt (Cincinnati/Seton) scored a goal in her fourth consecutive game as the Hiram College women’s soccer team defeated Bethany (W. Va.) 2-0 on Thursday evening at Henry Field.
The Terriers improve to 5-3-1 on the season, while the Bison fall to 3-5-0.
Glatt’s goal came at the 42:40 mark of the first half. She took a pass from junior Caitlin Elkins(Green) and blasted a shot from the top of the box to the far post and into the back of the net.
Glatt now has a team and NCAC leading eight goals on the season.
In the second half, HC had a chance to expand its lead in the 60th minute. Sophomore Abbey Rowe (Mt. Orab/Lynchburg-Clay) rocketed a shot that deflected off the crossbar. Glatt was right there on the rebound, but her header sailed high.
Rowe would expand Hiram’s lead to 2-0, with her fourth goal of the season in the 65th minute.
Junior Kailie Reed (Wadsworth) recorded her second straight shutout and third of the season by making one save in the contest.
“I am really happy with the result,” said head coach Bob Dean. “It took us a little long to get going, but once we were able to possess and move the ball, we were capable of doing things.”
The Hiram defense was tough all night, limiting Bethany to two shots, with just one being on goal. The Terriers took 27 total shots, with 11 being on goal.
The Terriers also held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
“I have to give props to our defense,” added Dean. “They played a great game and didn’t put us in situations where we exposed ourselves. I’m glad we got the win and that we were really able to open things up in the second half.”
Hiram will return to action on Saturday, when it travels to take on Heidelberg in a non-conference contest that is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
