HIRAM, OHIO  —  The Hiram College football team lost a 49-5 decision against Ohio Wesleyan University today (Saturday, Nov. 12) the North Coast Athletic Conference and season finale at Charles A. Henry Field on Senior Day.  [Game Stats]

With the loss, the Terriers end their season with a 1-9 overall record and 1-5 in the NCAC.  The Battling Bishops end their season at 4-6 overall and 3-3 NCAC.

Hiram got on the board first with a 39-yard field goal by freshman Greg Klisuric (Mentor) at the 10:45 minute mark of the first quarter that ended a 12-play, 54-yard drive.  But the lead wouldn’t last long as Ohio Wesleyan answered with a one-play touchdown drive on its ensuing possession.  Bishop quarterback Mason Espinosa connected on a 68-yard TD strike to Davd Mogilnicki to give OWU a 7-3 lead.  The combined 10 points would be the only scoring of the opening period as the Bishops maintained a slim four-point edge.

In the second quarter, the OWU offense found the endzone on four separate occassions, all on four pass plays including a 48-yard completion from Espinosa to Mogilnicki to end the scoring in the quarter as the Bishops blew the game open and expanded their lead to 35-3 heading into the locker rooms.  Espinosa would finish the first half with 306 passing yards and five TD.

OWU recorded two more scores in the third quarter beginning with a one-yard TD run by Kevin Mulumba to make the score 42-3.  Bishop running back Garrison Davis found the endzone with 2:45 left to play in the third from four yards out to end an 11-play, 71-yard drive and gave OWU a 49-3 advantage.

Hiram scored the only points of the fourth quarter on a safety by sophomore defensive lineman Harrison Dickerhoof (Alliance/Marlington) with 14:13 left to go in the game.  But OWU already had the game in hand and cruised to a 49-5 final.

OWU finished the game with 600 yards of total offense (275 rushing and 325 passing).  The Bishops were led by Espinosa who completed 19-of-26 passes for 325 yards and five TD.  Davis finished the game with a game-high 64 yards on 11 carries and had one TD.  Mogilnicki caught four passes for a game-high 138 yards and two scores.  Defensively, Tyler Sheetz led the way with a team-best 10 tackles, including a tackle for loss and an interception.

Hiram had 207 yards of offense (85 rushing and 122 passing) for the game and was led on the ground by sophomore quarterback Brendan Hanna (Ashtabula/Lakeside) with 39 yards on eight carries.  He also completed four-of-15 passes for 75 yards, but tossed three interceptions.  Freshman quarterback Bryan Greenwell (Cape Coral, Fla./Cape Coral) came on to complete seven-of-19 passes for 47 yards.  He was also the team’s second-leading rusher with 32 yards on six carries.  Sophomore wide receiver Richard Simpson (Kissimmee, Fla./Gateway) and senior Vincent Gerace (Lorain/Southview) both had a team-high three receptions for 22 and 19 yards respectively.  Senior Shaun Zalewski (Cleveland/St. Edward) had two receptions for a team-high 57 yards.  Defensively, senior two-time All-NCAC linebacker Jon Hull (Buford, Ga./Mill Creek) had a game-high 14 tackles (one solo and 13 assists), including a half tackle for loss.  Senior defensive back Mike Brown (Cleveland/Glenville), senior All-NCAC linebacker Oliver Dickerhoof (Alliance/Central Catholic) and senior linebacker Steve Brown (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) were all tied for second with 12 tackles each.  Dickerhoof also had 1.5 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.
