Senior Carly Daniels (Mesa, Ariz./Dobson) won the 200-yard backstroke and junior Rachel Patten (Castalia/Margaretta) captured the 800-yard freestyle, to lead the Hiram College women’s swimming & diving team against Division II foes Malone and Ursuline on Friday evening.
The Terriers (1-3) defeated Ursuline (0-5) 65-34, but fell to Malone (1-6) 63-40.
Daniels touched in 2:51.48, edging out Sarah Mally of Malone by .25 seconds. She also finished second in the 200-meter freestyle in 2:24.67, with junior Megan McBratnie (Berkley, Mich.) finishing third in 2:24.67.
Patten finished first with a time of 10:39.01.
Daniels also teamed with senior Rebecca Wright (New Carlisle/Northwestern Local), junior Marian Bade (Macungie, Pa./The Perkiomen School) and freshman Jenni Heid (Stow/Stow-Munoroe Falls) for a first place finish in the 200-meter medley relay, touching in 2:19.20.
Wright recorded a second place finish in the 200-meter butterfly in 3:04.43 and Bade was second in the 400-meter freestyle in 5:16.78.
Hiram will return to action on Saturday with a meet at Wooster. The Terriers will also compete against Olivet (Mich.) in the meet, which begins at 1 p.m.
