The Hiram College cross country teams concluded the 2013 season at the annual NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Meet hosted by Calvin (Mich.) College in Grand Rapids, Mich. Both the women’s and men’s team competed as individuals and did not qualify in the overall team standings.
Host school Calvin captured the women’s team title with 54 points. Oberlin College was second with 104 points and Hope (Mich.) College rounded out the top three schools with 105 points.
Individually for Hiram, senior Clarissa Claflin (Mayfield/Mayfield Heights) paced the Terrier women with a time of 27:56.6 and placed 224th out of 244 total runners. JuniorPatricia Bohls (Macedonia) had the second fastest time for the team at 29:45.1 and fellow junior Abigail Staysa (Columbia, Mo./Rockbridge) was the third Terrier to cross the finish line in a time of 31:04.7. Rounding out the Hiram competitors was junior Sarah Dutton (Columbia, Md./Columbia) with a time of 31:39.4.
On the men’s side, Wabash (Ind.) College took top honors with 60 points and was followed by Calvin with 79 points. Manchester (Ind.) College was third at 109 points.
Hiram had four runners compete and was led by Tomoyuki Fujimoto (Mino, Japan) who ran a time of 28:21.4 and placed 171st of 252 total runners. Senior Dennis Kirimi(Nairobi, Kenya) was second for Hiram with a mark of 31:01.2 and was followed by freshman Anthony Kerrigan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Millenium) in third with a tiem of 34:26.8. Junior Ricky Szasz (Middlefield/Cardinal) completed the list of competitors for the men with a time of 36:20.5.
