The Terrier men totaled 101 points to place fourth of four teams. Edinboro (Pa.) University captured the overall team title with 15 points, followed by host school Wooster in second with 56 points. Ashland University was third at 84 points.
Individually, senior Joe Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) recorded the top overall time for Hiram at 28:17.60 and finished 15th overall out of 50 runners. Junior Brendan Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) was second with a mark of 29:57.50 and sophomore Forrest Reed (Seven Hills/Normandy) had the third fastest time on the team of 30:51.90. Junior Dennis Kirimi (Nayiobi, Kenya) was fourth with a time of 31:58.70 and was followed by senior Don Daley (Chagrin Falls/University School) who ran a time of 34:22.20. Sophomore Manpreet Grewel (Parma/Normandy) and sophomore Anthony Franklin (Newbury) rounded out the scoring times for the Terriers with marks of 35:13.20 and 36:19.60 respectively. Also competing for Hiram was freshman Bryan Goldstein (Lyndhurst/Brush) who ran a time of 38:33.70.
On the women’s side, Hiram ended the event with a team total of 110 points to place fourth of four teams. Edinboro also won the women’s title and posted a total of 15 points. Wooster was second at 48 points and Ashland finished third with 85 points.
Junior Natalie Richardson (McConnelsville/Morgan) led the Hiram women with an overall time of 30:46.00 and finished 41st overall of 50 runners. Senior Alexandra Oleszko (Seattle, Wash./Nathan Hale) was the second Terrier to cross the finish line in a time of 31:16.80 and fellow senior Christine Bieniosek (Litchfield) was third at 33:53.90. Freshman Ellen Rochford (Akron/St. Vincent-St. Mary) was next with a time of 33:58.30 and was followed by freshman Sarah Dutton (Columbia, Md./Long Beach) who recorded the fifth best overall time for Hiram at 34:28.20. Freshman Patricia Bohls (Macedonia) completed the course with a mark of 34:28.60 and junior Elizabeth Haase (Akron/Firestone) rounded out the scoring times for Hiram at 35:32.00.
The Hiram cross country teams will travel to Canton for the annual Malone University/Walsh University Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 22. The first race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
