CANTON, OHIO — The Hiram College cross country teams competed at the at the Walsh-Malone Invitational today (Saturday, Oct. 23) hosted by Walsh University in Canton. The Terrier men placed sixth and the women finished ninth. [Men’s Results] [Women’s Results]
The Terrier men totaled 132 points to place sixth overall out of seven teams. Malone University won the event with 19 points and was followed by host school Walsh University in second with 56 points. Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College rounded out the top three teams at 109 points.
Junior Joe Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) paced Hiram with a time of 26:36 and finished ninth overall amongst 70 total runners. Sophomore Chris Pratt (North Canton/Hoover) was second in a time of 27:47. Sophomore Bryan Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) had the third fastest time for the Terriers completing the 8k course with a time of 29:00 and freshman Forrest Reed (Seven Hills/Normandy) was fourth at 29:13. Senior Nicholas Michalenko (Moon Twp., Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) cross the finish line in a time of 30:12 and sophomore Brendan Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) posted a mark of 30:56. Freshman Sam Ivcic (Maple Heights) had a time of 31:07 to place seventh on the team. In addition, junior Don Daley (Chagrin Falls/University Scho0l) and freshman David Stonebraker (Girard) also competed and posted times of 32:31 and 33:19 respectively.
The women finished the event with 251 points and placed ninth of nine teams. Malone captured the women’s title with 20 points, followed by Cedarville University in second with 37 points. Walsh finished third with a team total of 101 points.
Freshman Laila Almassri (Parma/Normandy) had the fastest overall time for the Hiram women at 21:22 and was 38th overall out of 91 total runners. Freshman Clarissa Claflin (Mayfield/Mayfield Heights) was the second Terrier to cross the finish line with a time of 23:09 and was followed by sophomore Megan Orosz (Mentor/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) who had a mark of 23:18. Senior Lindsay Kuhn (Canfield) was fourth to finish the 5k course with a time of 23:34. Freshman Carly Kidner (Ashtabula/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) had a time of 25:43 and sophomore Elizabeth Haase (Akron/Firestone) crossing the finish line in a time of 26:16. Senior Anh Tran (Cleveland/John Marshall) recorded the seventh fastest time for the team at 26:25. In addition, sophomore Natalie Richardson (McConnelsville/Morgan) and sophomore Amy Morton (Tacoma, Wash./Sav) ended the event with times of 26:35 and 27:15 respectively.
The Hiram cross country teams will compete in the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships next Saturday, Oct. 30 hosted by Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind. The Championships are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
