NEW MARKET, INDIANA  –  The Hiram College cross country teams competed at the at the Cross Country Championships today (Saturday, Oct.30) hosted by Wabash College at Southhampton High School in Mew Market, Ind. The Terrier men placed ninth and the women competed as individuals.  [Men’s Results] [Women’s Results]

The Terrier men totaled 261 points to place ninth overall out of nine teams.  Allegheny (Pa.) College finished first overall in the man’s competition with 35 points, while host Wabash finished second with 64 points.   Ohio Wesleyan University rounded out the top three teams at 83 points.

Junior Joe Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) paced Hiram with a time of 27:53 and finished 37th overall amongst 101 total runners.  Sophomore Chris Pratt (North Canton/Hoover) was second in a time of 28:40.8.  Freshman Forrest Reed (Seven Hills/Normandy) was third at 29:43 and sophomore Bryan Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) had the fourth fastest time for the Terriers completing the 8k course with a time of 30:12.  Sophomore Brendan Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) posted a mark of 30:56 while senior Nicholas Michalenko (Moon Twp., Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) was able to cross the finish line in a time of 31:27.4 .  Freshman Sam Ivcic (Maple Heights) had a time of 32:22.4 to place seventh on the team.  In addition, junior Don Daley (Chagrin Falls/University Scho0l) and freshman David Stonebraker (Girard) also competed and posted times of 33:54.1 and 35:17.0 respectively.

The women competed individually in the event.   Oberlin College captured the women’s title with 56 points, followed by Allegheny in second with 58 points.  Kenyon College finished third with a team total of 84 points.

Freshman Laila Almassri (Parma/Normandy) had the fastest overall time for the Hiram women at 26:57.1 and was 70th overall out of 82 total runners.  Senior Lindsay Kuhn (Canfield) was second to finish the 6k course with a time of 29:22.4.  Freshman Clarissa Claflin (Mayfield/Mayfield Heights) was the third Terrier to cross the finish line with a time of 30:15.5 and was followed by freshman Carly Kidner (Ashtabula/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) with a time of 32:31.8

The Hiram cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Invitational hosted by Hope (Mich.) College on Saturday, Nov. 13.   The day is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. in Holland, Mich.
