The Hiram College cross country teams competed at the annual NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Meet hosted by Anderson University in Anderson, Ind. The Terrier women placed 31st of 33 teams, while the men finished 35th of 37 teams.
The Hiram women finished with a team-total 957 points to place 31st overall. Hope (Mich.) College won the women’s title with team total of 91 points. Oberlin College was second with 95 points and Calvin (Mich.) College rounded out the top-three teams with 103 points.
Individually, the Terriers were led by junior Laila Almassri (Parma/Normandy) who posted a 5k time of 26:13.59 and placed 180th overall of 234 total runners. Fellow juniorClarissa Claflin (Mayfield/Mayfield Heights) was the second runner to cross the finish line for Hiram with a mark of 27:30.79. Senior Megan Orosz (Mentor/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) and freshman Ashley Dillon (Orwell/Grand Valley) finished back-to-back with times of 27:59.26 and 28:00.09 respectively. Senior Natalie Richardson(McConnelsville/Morgan) had the fifth-fastest time for Hiram at 29:02.60 and sophomore Patricia Bohls (Macedonia) was sixth with a time of 29:42.59. Rounding out the Hiram competitors was senior Elizabeth Haase (Akron/Firestone) who ran a time of 30:31.34.
On the men’s side, Hiram completed the event with a team-total of 1,002 points to place 35th overall. Calvin came in first in the team standings with 36 points. Wabash (Ind.) College was second with 111 points and Case was third with 146 points.
Freshman Matthew Walker (Stow) paced the Hiram men with a time of 27:43.36 and finished 147th overall out of 256 total runners. Senior Bryan Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) was the second Terrier runner to complete the 8k course with a mark of 28:35.47. Junior Tomoyuki Fujimoto (Mino, Japan) was third on the team with a time of 29:22.45 and was followed by senior Brendan Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) who ran a time of 29:41.19. Junior Dennis Kirimi (Nayiobi, Kenya) posted the fifth quickest time for the team of 30:37.21 and junior Anthony Franklin (Newbury) followed with a mark of 30:37.21. Rounding out the competitors for the Hiram men was senior Chris Pratt (North Canton/Hoover) who ran a time of 33:47.60.
The Hiram cross country teams conclude their season with the completion of the NCAA Regional meet.
