NEW WILMINGTON, PA.  —  The Hiram College men’s cross country team finished 10th and the women were 15th at the annual Westminster College Fisher Invitational today (Saturday, Sept. 3) in New Wilmington, Pa.  [Men’s Results] [Women’s Results]

The men finished the event with 252 points to place 10th overall out of 13 teams.  Gannon (Pa.) Unviersity won the event with 95 points.  Mercyhurst (Pa.) College was second at 96 points and Franciscan University rounded out the top three with 99 points.

Individually, senior Joe Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) paced the Terriers with a time of 28:13.2 and placed fifth overall.  Junior Bryan Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) was second with a mark of 29:44.3.  Junior Brendon Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) completed the course with the third quickest time for Hiram at 32:11.4 and senior Don Daley (Chagrin Falls/University School) was fourth at 36:47.7.  Rounding out the Terrier competitors was freshman Jabez Patterson (Chicago, Ill./Noble Street Charter School) with a time of 54:14.1.

The women posted a team score of 416 points to place 15th overall out of 16 teams.  Clarion (Pa.) University captured the over women’s event with a team total of 71 points.  Grove City (Pa.) College was second with 108 points and Franciscan rounded out the top three with 129 points.

Sophomore Laila Almassri (Parma/Normandy) had the fastest individual time for Hiram at 27:56.0 and placed 55th overall.  Junior Megan Orosz (Mentor/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) was second with a mark of 31:24.5 and junior Natalie Richardson (McConnelsville/Morgan) was third at 32:02.6.  Senior Alexandra Oleszko (Seattle, Wash.) recorded the fourth fastest time at 32:22.3 and freshman Patricia Bohls (Macedonia) was fifth at 33:12.8.  Rounding out the scoring times for the Terriers were sophomore Clarissa Claflin (Mayfield/Mayfield Heights) and junior Amy Morton (Tacoma, Wash./St. Anthony Village, Minn.) with times of 33:53.9 and 35:43.0 respectively.  Also competiting for Hiram were senior Christine Bieniosek (Litchfield) with a mark of 38:26.0, junior Elizabeth Haase (Akron/Firestone) who turned in a time of 39:10.3, freshman Ellen Rochford (Akron/St. Vincent-St. Mary) had a time of 46:37.9 and freshman Sarah Dutton (Columbia, Md.) posted a mark of 55:35.9.

Hiram will compete next Saturday, Sept. 10 when it travels to Canton for the Walsh University Invitational.
