The Hiram College cross country teams continued its season at the annual Penn State-Behrend (Pa.) Invitational in Erie, Pa. The Terrier men placed 12th and the women were 13th. [Men’s Results] [Women’s Results]
The Hiram men ended the event with 340 team points to placed 12th of 14 teams. Fredonia (N.Y.) State University came in first with 39 points and Lake Erie (Pa.) College was second at 45 points. Rounding out the top-three teams was host school PSU-Behrend with 68 points.
Invdividually, Hiram was paced by senior Tomoyuki Fujimoto (Mino, Japan) who posted a time of 28:14.1 and placed 43rd overall out of 137 total runners. Senior Dennis Kirimi (Nayiobi, Kenya) was second with a time of 31:16.4 and freshman Anthony Kerrigan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Millenium) was the third Terrier to cross the finish line with a time of 31:23.4. Sophomore Daniel McFadden (Morristown, N.J./Mountain Lakes) had the fourth quickest time at 34:23.1 and senior Anthony Franklin (Newbury) was fifth after posting a mark of 35:19.2. Rounding out the Hiram competitors was junior Ricky Szasz (Middlefield/Cardinal) and freshman Bo Kang (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) who recorded times of 36:18.7 and 43:56.9 respectively.
The Terrier women had a team score of 348 points to place 13th of 14 teams. Fredonia completed the sweep in the team standings with a frist-place total 51 points. Gannon (Pa.) University was second with 79 points and PSU-Behrend was third with 85 points.
Hiram was led by senior Laila Almassri (Parma/Normandy) who completed the event in a time of 22:17.1 and finished 57th out of 123 total runners. Senior Clarissa Claflin(Mayfield/Mayfield Heights) was second to complete the course for the Terriers with a time of 23:03.0 and junior Abigail Staysa (Columbia, Mo./Rockbridge) was third with a mark of 23:18.6. Junior Patricia Bohls (Macedonia) posted the fourth fastest time at 23:37.8 and junior Sarah Dutton (Columbia, Md./Columbia) completed the list of competitors with a time of 24:11.4.
Hiram will next compete in the Lorain Community College Invitational on Friday, Sept. 20 in Elyria. The first race is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
