Junior Sarah Condon (Powell/Bishop Watterson) scored three goals as the Hiram College women’s soccer team shut out Hilbert (N.Y.) College, 6-0, in a non-conference game at Charles A. Henry Field.
Condon scored the game’s first three goals beginning with her first just 7:44 into the first half with an assist from freshman Abbey Rowe (Mt. Orab/Lynchburg-Clay). Less than six minutes later, Condon struck again with her second goal, including another helper by Rowe, to put the Terriers up, 2-0. Condon then tallied the hat trick at the 22:43 minute mark with an assist from All-NCAC junior Kelsey Martin (Austintown/Fitch). The three goals would be all the scoring in the first period as Hiram took a 3-0 lead into the locker rooms
In the second half, Hiram struck again during the 60th minute when Martin recorded an unassisted marker to increase the margin to 4-0. The Terriers went on add scores at the 72:45 and 82:15 minute marks from freshmen Kaitlyn Mauch (Parma/Normandy) and Genna Atkins (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) en route to the 6-0 victory. Sophomore Caitlin Elkins (Green) was credited with an assist on the Mauch goal and freshman Kristen Verel (Aurora) got the assist on the Atkins goal.
In net, sophomore Kailie Reed (Wadsworth) played all 90 minutes and got the win to improve to 5-0 overall for the season. The win was also her third shutout of the season.
Hiram will look to increase its win streak to six games when it travels to University Heights to face non-conference opponent John Carroll University on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
