Sustainability initiatives on campus will be recognized at the Celebration of Sustainability, at 4:15 p.m. Monday, May 9, in front of the Kennedy Center.
The celebration will include a ribbon cutting ceremony for the solar power panels which have been installed on top of the Coleman Center since December 2010, updates on sustainability initiatives at Hiram College, an opportunity to meet the newly formed Climate Commitment Council and a statement from Students Organized for Sustainability (SOS) President Nate Straffon ’12.
In conjunction with the celebration SOS is sponsoring a Food Waste Challenge starting May 4 and running through the end of the 3-Week. After each of your meals in the Dining Hall, scrape your plates into the trash can placed on the weight scale. SOS will record the pounds of food deposited in the trash can during each day of the challenge, with a goal of reducing the amount of waste produced daily by the end of the challenge.
