With the win, the Terriers improve to 8-8 overall and the Titans fall to 13-3 overall for the season.
Hiram took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first inning on a RBI single by junior Steve Dunn (Westlake). Westminster later took over the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, making the score 2-1. But the lead wouldn’t last long as the Terriers crossed home plate twice in the fourth thanks to a two-RBI single by senior Doug Adkins (Frazeysburg/Riverview) with runners on second and third. Hiram went on to add three more runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run homerun by sophomore Ian Sewolich (Cleveland/St. Ignatius), his second of the season, to give the Terriers a 6-2 advantage. The Titans tallied a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to narrow the lead to 6-3. But Hiram put the game away scoring three runs in the seventh and went on to claim the 9-3 victory.
Hiram racked up 15 hits in the game and was led by Adkins who finished four-of-five with a run scored and three RBI. Four other Terriers posted a multi-hit game with a pair of hits. Sewolich ended the game one-of-two with three runs scored and three RBI.
On the mound, sophomore Mike Lalonde (Willowick/South) had a strong outing pitching five and two-thirds innings and recording his second win the season to improve to 2-1 overall. He allowed two runs on three hits and had three strikeouts. Senior Andy Marsh (Orville/Grand Valley) pitched an inning-and-a-third of relief giving up no runs and just one hit.
In the second game, Westminster led, 2-0, before the game was suspended in the second inning due to snow and worsening field condidtions. No reschedule date for game two has been set.
