From Seattle to Atlanta, and Reno to Ravenna, Hiram alumni, their families and friends will gather to lend a hand in their communities on Alumni Volunteer Day, September 8, 2012.
Many alumni remember Campus Day, an annual day free from classes to allow students to volunteer, as one of their favorite college memories, and Alumni Volunteer Day lets them to continue that tradition as alumni. This is the 11th annual Alumni Volunteer Day. It is scheduled each year on the closest Saturday to Sept. 11, the national day of service.
In line with Hiram’s long-standing tradition of emphasizing community commitment and service, this year’s projects include assisting at a rescue mission in Akron, Ohio, helping children overcome their grief at the death of a parent or sibling in Atlanta, Ga., working with Habitat For Humanity to provide affordable housing for the poor in Bend, Ore., and San Francisco, cutting a new hiking trail in northern Nevada, caring for the delicate ecosystem in northern California, manning several food banks for the poor, among many others.
